Wow! We can't believe that we are already over halfway through with camp! We hope you have all enjoyed it as much as we have!
Our presenters today did a great job! The kids got to meet Patrick Henry and learn about his leadership skills and his gift for speaking. He told how he gave an inspiring speech where he declared, "give me liberty, or give me death!" This speech remains inspiring to this day.
They also met George Washington who led them across the icy waters of the Delaware for a surprise attack on the Hessian army. He also talked about life after the war and how his granddaughter Nellie taught him to be a grandfather.
We were also visited by Running Bear, a Native American who shared some of the history of his peoples interactions with George Washington. He told the kids the story of how Washington became known as "The Bulletproof Soldier."
Last, but not least, the kids visited with Thomas Jefferson who told them how he helped to write the Declaration of Independence. He also shared with them his love for ice cream. The kids got to taste Jeffersons recipe for Sweet Potato Biscuits topped with honey butter. Yum! If you would like the recipe so that you can make it at home, feel free to check it out HERE.
Just a few reminders:
Camp Shirts should be worn each day to camp if possible.
We encourage the kids to memorize these important parts of documents and songs unique to our country. They can earn prizes by passing them off to a youth leader. The memorizations are posted HERE if you'd like to help them at home.
Don't forget our music page where you can help the kids practice the music we will be singing Friday. It's coming up soon! We can't wait!
Thanks again for helping us make this a great week! See you tomorrow!
